Brainwave entrainment (sometimes also called brainwave synchronization), is a practice of intentionally causing EEG brainwaves
to move to a specific frequency by exposing the sensory system to a dominating external stimulus.
The purpose of attempting brainwave entrainment is to bring one's mind into a preferred state. For example, during deep meditation,
an individual may want their mind to be optimally primed for relaxation. By exposing the auditory cortex to binaural beats at the proper
frequencies, one can potentially assist their brainwaves to fall in sync, bringing the mind into a relaxed state (delta range).
Similarly, a student wishing to focus on finishing an essay may wish to expose themselves to a stimulus in the gamma frequency range,
eliciting a brainwave synchronization response, assisting their effort to focus on the task at hand.
Beats Relax, a free brainwave entrainment app uses binaural beats to attempt to synchronize your brainwaves with those generally associated with relaxation.
